The Ndzuwani Necklace from Comoros honors the island of Anjouan, called Ndzuwani in Comorian.
Its pendant features the island's contours and the colors of the Comorian flag, with its crescent and four stars, in a gold or silver finish.
Wearing Ndzuwani also means carrying the memory of an archipelago that French colonization divided.
The historical Comoros united Ngazidja, Ndzuwani, Mwali, and Maoré, today called Mayotte.
Yet, after the independence of Comoros in 1975, France maintained Maoré under its administration, separating islands united by the same history, culture, and people.
This necklace asserts that colonization cannot erase either the roots or the Comorian unity.
